Talking Past Each Other – Student And Staff Reflection In Undergraduate Software Projects
نویسنده
چکیده
Group projects are an important part of Software Engineering education. However, conflicts that arise from group work can affect overall class learning and performance. It can be difficult for teachers to fully understand the social context of these issues. We explore the nature of self-, peerand staff-reflection to identify and mediate issues within a class. We have used a protocol that encourages reflection to explore conflicts that arise from group work in a Software Engineering paper. We have found a way to explore and mediate student impressions and expectations and to identify conflicts with staff expectations and course objectives. We present a lightweight and flexible approach for such investigations.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities in OSS
Using Open Source Software (OSS) in undergraduate teaching in universities is now commonplace. Students use OSS applications and systems in their courses on programming, operating systems, DBMS, web development to name but a few. Studying OSS projects from both a product and a process view also forms part of the software engineering curriculum at various universities. Many students have taken p...

This paper describes the pedagogical impact of real-world experimental projects undertaken as part of an advanced undergraduate fluid mechanics subject at an Australian university. The projects have been organized to complement traditional lectures and introduce students to the challenges of professional design, physical modelling, data collection and analysis. An overview of two projects is pr...
متن کامل[O2] Reflection as a component of a blended learning approach: encouraging engagement and re-engagement
Human Physiology is a level one undergraduate core module that is taught using a blended learning approach. Students are encouraged to direct their own learning using ‘land-mark’ lectures hosted on-line, linked to references to key resource material in textbooks, on websites and in computer software programmes. These elements constitute the base of a learning triangle, whose apex is class conta...

This paper discusses organisational experiences with consortia in Sweden, especially in the maintenance and further development of a complex national computer based system for student admission and documentation and other IT services about students. It summarizes an approach that may help solve a problem that is common in European university systems: how to manage the transition from centralise...
متن کاملTeaching Global Software Engineering - A Practical Experience
Since software is no longer developed by one enterprise which is located at one single site only, modern software engineers have to strive for distinct skills and capabilities allowing them to work together on a global scale. When conjointly designing, implementing, and testing different software components, these distributed engineers will also have to contribute their local know-how and count...
